Video Title: RANDS and NAIRA FT. ICE PRINCE, CASSPER NYOVEST, PHYNO, ANATII +
After fair reviews for his debut single “Rands and Naira,” Nigerian rapper Emmy Gee has dropped a video for the remix of “Rand and Naira.” The song features “Alobam” hit maker Phyno, Ice Prince, Anatii, DJ Dimplez, Ab Crazy and Cassper Nyovest. This is a great effort at combating Xenophobia in South Africa, but African rappers would sound so much better without the “Americanized” lyrics and unnecessary cursing. Its a good remix though to be fair.
Artist: SHABAZZ PALACES
Video Title: MOTION SICKNESS
“Motion Sickness” will qualify as a short film with lots of abstracts that sends the viewer on a mental trip which is a great thing. Between the spaced out synths and ambient cords, this picture strings complex abstracts of pain, loss and the trappings of consumerism that eases into the music for effect. The song is off the “Lese Majesty” album released in June this year.
Artist: ARNY
Video Title: DNA FT. PAPPY KOJO & LYRIX
HipHop new comer DNA teams up with rappers Pappy Kojo and Lyrix for his “arNY” video. This tune shows how young Ghanaian rappers are exploring HipHop in their local languages. Pappy Kojo introduces the song with his Fante [largely spoken in the Central/Western Region of Ghana] rap, then DNA comes in with his Ga [mostly spoken in the Greater Accra Region ] and English bars, with Lyrix punctuating the rest of the song with his Fante and English rhymes. One thing is for sure though, the Fante rappers are bringing it like nobody’s business in 2014.

Artist: JAYSO
Song Title: OBAA MU BAA NIE
Ghanaian rapper/producer Paul Nuama Donkor A.K.A Jayso put up a soundcloud link on his twitter recently- it was a single off his unnamed album. “OBAA MU BAA NIE” has Hiphop enthusiasts debating what the album will sound like. First of all this is one of the few songs we hear Jayso rapping in twi and pidgin. The flow is impressive of course so now Accra is curious about “Obaa Mu Baa Nie” [a twi phrase that means “This is a real woman”] and whatever will follow.
Artist: ELI
Song Title: QUICKSAND
Accra has been seeing more of Eli lately and “QUICKSAND” is not a bad effort after his long hiatus. Eli is all grown up now and shows undeniable maturity in his sound as an artist.”QUICKSAND.” features two of Ghana’s rap heavyweights EL and Kojo Cue. Enjoy.
